CoM SSA Explainer
The client
ICLEI Africa is a regional office of ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability, a global network of local and regional governments committed to sustainability. ICLEI Africa works closely with the Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa to assist local governments in the region in their climate and energy efforts. ICLEI Africa offers technical expertise, capacity-building programs, and knowledge-sharing platforms to help cities develop and implement their Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs). The partnership between the CoM SSA and ICLEI Africa strengthens the support network for cities, enhances collaboration, and promotes sustainable urban development in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The brief
ICLEI Africa tasked Storyground to create a 6-minute animation to narrate the story and outcomes of the Covenant of Mayors of Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA). The project presented the challenge of effectively communicating a substantial amount of information in a concise way, ensuring that the purpose, work and sustainability goals of the CoM SSA were not only easily understood but also explained in an engaging way. We made sure to be respectful, ethical, and mindful in our use of visuals, characters, and overall tone of voice.
The process
We started the project with a thorough consultation process, delving deeply into the provided script information. Collaborating closely with ICLEIs team of experienced writers was crucial in the initial stages, as they possessed a clear vision for their story. Together, we crafted the scripted ideas into a concise and compelling narrative.
Regarding the visual treatment, we were granted ample creative freedom to unleash our imagination and breathe life into our ideas. This exciting process enabled us to explore various visual styles and infuse the story with a hint of imagination.
